What is truth?

Have you ever wondered what truth is?

Most common truths we know come to our knowledge by being taught by out parents. As we get older, truths are taught to us by others who we seee as wiser or have been deemed by society to be wiser. Then, by our own experiences and personal understandings, we deveolp, or should I say, realize, other truths - physical, emotional and spiritual truths.

When it comes to our spirit, how can we "truly" know that what we believe to be truth is "truly" truth? Yes, quite perplexing. This thought came about after visiting a Mormon church with a co-worker while on a project away from home. There was a very friendly atmosphere, but I could not feel the presence of God in that place.

As the first part of the service went on, they gave testimonies and one woman said that it was not until after the Mormons first came to her door, ministered to her, and asked her to pray to her that God reveal to her if what they said was truth, that she felt "that" presence.

The service continued with gospel doctrine class (a.k.a. Sunday School) where they were learning more of Jesus. the question was then raised, "How do we live like Christ"? My answer was that we not live like Christ, but allow for Christ's spirit to live within us and THROUGH us. This raised some eyebrows and caused some people in the class to pause and wonder.

The final part of the service broke off into men's and women's groups. In the men's group we discussed the Prophet, the leader of thier religion, and his importance in the world we live in today. The prophet is the voice of God in our day and age, speaking relevant truths and raising issues that affect our worl today. The prophet supercedes teaching within the bible and the book of mormon. At this point I began thinking to myself - what was the point of Christ dying on the cross for my sins if He did not also destroy the division that once existed between God and us?

So are they right in thier truths or am I right in my truths and beliefs? I communicate to a God that sees me as His child, thats willing to talk to me, commune with me and relate with me directly. What kind of faith can one really have to God that will only talk to you via voicemail all the time?
